Construction Wireman/Construction Electrician Program

Requirements for Construction Wireman (CWP) Program:
1-    Resident within the Richmond region,
2-    Social Security Card or Birth Certificate,
3-    17 years of age or older
The Construction Wireman Program is currently an On-The-Job program. No classroom time is needed. The RJATC does offer CWP classes periodically throughout the year but are not required.  The Construction Wireman Program (CWP) gives you the opportunity to work with the same electrical contractors that the Inside Wireman Apprentices are working with. Monthly work reports and work evaluation reports are required to keep track of your work hours and to evaluate your job performances. Construction Wireman (CW) pay rates are dependent upon the applicants documented electrical construction work experience and the type of job the CW is working on. Construction Wireman can apply for the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship at anytime.
If a CW is interested in becoming an Inside Wireman Apprentice, the CW can enter the program by:
1.  Submitting the required information (school transcripts, etc), receiving a qualifying aptitude test score and interviewing with the Committee. OR
2.  Working 4,000 documented electrical construction experience hours and interviewing with the Committee. 
     
The Committee makes the final decision of acceptance into the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program.  Prior to job placement, you are required to pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
   **There is no $20.00 processing fee.**

Construction Wireman Program

Pay Rate 

CW1       0 - 2000 *Hours            

$14.02 hr. plus benefits

CW2  2001 - 4000 *Hours

$14.89 hr. plus benefits

CW3  4001 - 6000 *Hours 

$15.77 hr. plus benefits

CW4  6001 - 8000 *Hours            

$17.52 hr. plus benefits

* = Documented Electrical Construction Experience Hours



The Construction Wireman / Construction Electrician Program (CW/CE) is separate from the JATC's registered apprenticeship program.  The Construction Wireman / Construction Electrician Program (CW/CE) sometimes offers employment opportunities for those waiting for acceptance into the registered apprenticeship program.
To qualify for the CW/CE program one has to meet and/or be able to do the following: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to safely climb and work from ladders and scaffolds of various heights. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds, bend, stoop, crawl and work in confined spaces. Must be able to lift, carry and manipulate tools and materials common to the trade.

The following is the list of tools all construction wireman apprentices are required to have on-the-job.  You will be notified of local suppliers that will have pre-assembled electriclal apprentice tool sets ready for purchase at a discounted cost.
